Reiner Park
1101 Green Knolls Drive, Buffalo Grove, IL.
An arboretum is a living museum dedicated to trees and woody plants and serves as a place for conservation and public engagement. Wild Ones Lake-to-Prairie Chapter is sponsoring two events to celebrate community arboretums with a focus on the The Reiner Park Native Tree and Shrub Arboretum in Buffalo Grove, IL.. There will be a tour and planting opportunity at this botanical facility on Saturday, October 4th. Then on Tuesday, October 7th at our monthly chapter meeting, we will learn all about Starting an Arboretum in Your Community.
Jeff Weiss, board member of the Lake-to-Prairie Chapter started the arboretum in 2021 to showcase and educate homeowners about how to use native trees and shrubs in their home landscape. The collection at the Reiner Park Native Tree and Shrub Arboretum now exceeds 100 species. It was awarded Level II accreditation by the ArbNet organization last year and is listed with hundreds of other arboretums worldwide. Jeff will be leading the tour and shrub planting event at Reiner Park. We hope you can join us for this very special event.
