Bird Walk at Lakewood Forest Preserve

 

 

Join us for a June bird walk at Lakewood Forest Preserve! As the largest forest preserve in the district, Lakewood contains various habitats that are home to many breeding bird species. While some species nest earlier in the year, June marks the peak breeding period in our region. Some of those species stay year-round, but many others migrated into the area during April and May after spending the colder months at southern wintering grounds. As we explore one section of this large preserve, we’ll be on the lookout for species such as wood ducks, ruby-throated hummingbirds, green herons, barred owls, eastern kingbirds, purple martins, eastern bluebirds, and field sparrows, among many others. There may even be a chance to find some of the rarer breeding birds in our county.

Lake County Audubon Society’s Matt Tobin will be leading the walk. Please bring a pair of binoculars if you have them. More specific details about the walk and parking information can be found through the registration link below:
