Bird Walk at McDonald Woods Forest Preserve

Date: Saturday, September 6, 2025

Time: 8:00 am – 10:30 am

Trip Leader: Matt Tobin  (847) 951-1483

Join the Lake-to-Prairie Chapter of Wild Ones and Lake County Audubon Society for a bird walk at McDonald Woods Forest Preserve on Saturday, September 6. McDonald Woods is a scenic forest preserve that provides options for many different birds with its array of woodland, wetland, and grassland habitats. It is also one of the 12 locations selected by the Lake County Forest Preserves for the 2025 Hike Lake County fall walking program. With the fall migration in full swing, we’ll look for a variety of resident and migrating birds moving through the preserve, including different species of warblers, sparrows, nuthatches, and finches, among others, and perhaps even come across some fall surprises.

Matt Tobin will be leading the walk and he hopes to bring the wonder and appreciation of birds to the entire group. He has been actively birding in Lake County for the last 5+ years and has been a board member with Lake County Audubon Society since 2022.

The walk is open to all experience levels, including beginning birders! Please bring a pair of binoculars along if you have them. We will have some loaner pairs available for participants to borrow during the walk.

The walk is limited to 20 participants, so be sure to register early!

Specific details about the walk and the parking location can be found on the registration page, linked below:
